Adam Goldstein otherwise known as DJ AM, was one of the biggest DJ’s in America for at least a decade. He influenced a whole new generation of DJ’s with his mashup style, playing everything from Rock, 80′s Pop to 90′s Hip-Hop. About 5 years ago, when I first started djing in the U.S, I remember a promoter asking me to play a “DJ AM style” set. At the time I had no idea what the promoter was talking about but the more I kept hearing this phrase, I realised what kind of impact AM had made with his music in the clubbing world and on the DJ community. He made you’re average Saturday night drunken Top 40 crowd appreciate a DJ with skills.

He sadly passed away on August 28th 2009 from an accidental drug overdose. I can honestly say, one year after his death, there is a spark missing within the DJ scene in the U.S and it just doesn’t feel the same anymore but he will always live on through all the DJ’s he influenced to be creative and get ill on the turntables. Sadly missed but not forgotten, RIP DJ AM.

Skillz pays tribute to his friend who he often toured with alongside DJ Jazzy Jeff.

If you have experienced drug addiction or know someone close to you who has, I think a show like this is important to watch. From personal experience, I have realised that there is always a story behind people in this situation and unless you have experienced addiction yourself, you will never fully understand what they are going through.

I’m not sure if this show will be airing in the UK but I hope it does.

Sad.
